For the training are you modifying the intervals to illicit the intended response?

I choose the intervals based on the athlete’s physiological strengths and the phase of training we’re in. If an athlete has a strong VO₂ max, I can use shorter rest because they can handle it.

For athletes who aren’t as robust in that area, I give more rest - otherwise the aerobic prescription risks drifting into anaerobic territory.

As an athlete progresses aerobically over a training block, they may be able to tolerate slightly longer reps or shorter rest, but it’s never a sudden jump. It’s a steady, controlled progression.
